Interacting with nature has always been a big part of my life. I spent my first 8 years playing with my brothers in the mountains of Southern California. We created magical memories and learned lasting lessons as we dug tunnels, cooked in mud kitchens, hunted for tadpoles and frogs, and built forts out of whatever was available. While teaching I squeezed nature into lessons whenever possible because children always found it engaging. It never failed that eyes lit up and light bulbs went off as kids discovered the world around them. Now as a mother of three young boys, I see their natural curiosity for how the world works on a daily basis. Living in an urban area I try to provide my boys with many opportunities to play and explore the world outside. Hopefully all the muddy clothes and adventures will spark a love for nature in my boys just as it did for me.
