Hello and welcome Tinkergarten families! I am very excited to bring this amazing opportunity to our community! I look forward to our fun-filled adventures of outdoor learning that are ready and waiting for you and your family. So, a little about myself….. My fondest memories of childhood come from the time I spent outside exploring. What has played a huge part in cultivating my continued love of nature? Growing up in beautiful Acworth, Georgia and those long ago days spent climbing trees; chasing fireflies (aka “lightnin’ bugs” in the south); countless hours of playing in the creek, filling my bucket with tadpoles (which, by the way, was very challenging); spending time with my family searching for lost fishing lures when Lake Allatoona was drained for the winter; playing in the woods with neighborhood kids. Experiencing life outside as a child taught me the valuable lesson that there is nothing more nurturing to the mind, body and spirit than to have the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, and mud between your toes. My previous experience comes as Co-Founder and President of a non-profit recreational grief support group for families who lost a child to cancer, as well as time spent as a Camp Counselor for children fighting cancer. These unique and meaningful opportunities only deepened my appreciation of the bonding that occurs between parent and child when participating in activities together. Inspired by my childhood, I still enjoy the great outdoors. I love gardening, and have developed a passion for creating a bee and butterfly habitat in my own backyard. I have a new interest in saving the Monarch butterflies, and I am enjoying learning about the problems that have endangered them, as well as ways that I can be part of the solution. I believe the more time we spend in our natural environment, the more we grow to appreciate the fragile beauty that surrounds us. What follows is an awakening of our responsibility to be good stewards in caring for Mother Nature. For me personally, the most exciting part of Tinkergarten is in that moment, when suddenly, the magic of a child’s imagination comes alive and the experience takes on a whole new path, created by their own ideas. In the most marvelous way, the children transition into leaders while the guides find themselves becoming explorers as well. It is an opportunity for adults to recall the magic of what it is like to explore the world through the eyes child. I would love to have you join me on what could be one of the greatest adventures of your kiddo's life. A whole new world is waiting for us and ready to be explored, so let’s get this Tinkergarten started!
