The dirt around Frederick is filled with a rich and nostalgic scent that transports me back to my childhood. I’m greeted by memories of planting gardens with my great-grandparents, giggling with my sister as we plucked fresh blackberries from the vine, plopped down in the dirt, and indulged – right there in the garden – until our bellies were full and our shirts adorn with sweet purple juices. As children, our weekends were filled with outdoor adventures, from camping and canoeing on the Potomac to riding our bikes on the canal to Harpers Ferry for ice cream… or maybe just around the neighborhood to play at the park with friends. We were outside. Constantly. Fast forward a decade or two and my husband and I find our roots firmly planted in Frederick County, as we raise an incredibly curious toddler right here... in a town we absolutely love. Once holding positions as an educator (early childhood – adult) and camp director, I now find myself holding handfuls of rocks, worms, and dandelions… and though my hands are full, they don’t even compare to my heart that is overflowing at the sight of my child and his friends laughing, learning, and connecting with the world around them. I am beyond delighted to bring Tinkergarten to the Frederick area and look forward to meeting you, as we make mud pies, masterpieces, and memories together with our children.
